1) Concept of definition mapWhat is it?
The combination of words with visual images. It uses lines and geometric shapes to show the relationship between concepts and sub concepts (Miller & Veatch 2011). Concept maps usually consist of circle or square shaped boxes connected by lines. There is normally a larger box at the top with the main concept and then boxes that branch off and help describe the main concept. A concept map is a graphic organizer that helps students organize and represent their knowledge of a certain concept (Inspiration Software 2015). Benefits

3) Vocabulary Rating guide
What is it?
A table where students can rate their knowledge of vocabulary terms, before, during, and after reading (Miller & Veatch 2011). The teacher introduces the word, or list of words, and students put that word onto their rating sheet. They then mark which column best fits their understanding of that work; never heard of the word, has seen or heard the word, think they know the word, or know the word and can explain it (Enome Inc, 2015).

Benefits:
- Increases student engagement and active involvement
- Activates prior background knowledge
- Prepares the student to learn and incorporate new words into his/her vocabulary (Enome Inc, 2015).
- Helps the teacher get a realistic gauge of students' expressive and receptive vocabulary knowledge
- Vocabulary list also signals to students the relative importance of these terms and the likelihood that they will appear in some form of assessment (Feldman & Kinsella 2015).
